ENERGY NEWS FOR TODAY 02/11/2020
POWER GENERATION IN GHANA

Total generation from both hydro and thermal plants
The graph above shows the power generated by the various hydro and thermal plants within 24 hours in Ghana. The power generated by these plants are measured in Gigawatts and Megawatts.
The total energy generated by the various hydro and thermal plants is 53.0193 GWh
1GW=1000 megawatts.
The peak demand was 2702MW.

Total generation of power from our hydro plants
Hydro-electric energy is a form of energy that harness the power of water in motion. Hydro power plants capture the energy of falling water to generate electricity. A turbine converts the kinetic energy of falling water into mechanical energy. Then a generator converts the mechanical energy into electrical energy.
The graph above shows the electricity generated by hydro power stations in Ghana. The horizontal column shows the names of companies and the vertical column shows the amount of electricity generated within 24 hour period.
All electricity generated are transmitted by GRIDCO and GRIDCO transfer to ECG for onward distribution to consumers.
The total energy generated by the various hydro plants is 22.6278 GWh
HYDROLOGY FOR TODAY
Akosombo Dam: 269.97ft
Bui Dam: 174.54m

Total generation of power from our thermal plants
Thermal energy is generated from thermal electric generators,(TEG) also called Seebeck generators converts heat energy directly into electrical energy. Thermal generators are powered with fossil fuels. Thermal energy is also called heat energy or radiant heat. The horizontal column shows the names of companies and the vertical shows the quantum/amount of electricity generated.
The total energy generated by the various thermal plants is 30.3915 GWh
