NEQ was started in 2018 with five (5) participating schools from the New Juaben Municipal Assembly of the Eastern region. The competition was won by Koforidua Secondary Technical. They were followed by Pope John Secondary and Oti Boateng Secondary School, Ghana Secondary School and Koforidua Technical Institute.
Deserving schools were presented with library books and scientific equipment. They also undertook excursions to energy related facilities exposing students to practical knowledge on energy issue – this benefitted over 500 pupils from the schools. Last year the event was sponsored by the Volta River Authority (VRA) in partnership with Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC).
In short, the 2018 edition was a success. It attracted prominent personalities in Ghana including the President of the Republic, Nananom in the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, Ministers of State, Heads of State-Owned Enterprises, et cetera.
